Later Career Lamar was asked while in the Air Force to leave his family and go to Guam. He decided that at that point, being with his family was more important. This was an extremely difficult decision for him as he truly loved the Service. He picked up his family and moved from Salt Lake City, Utah to Portland, Oregon. He applied with the Federal Aviation Agency and while waiting to hear back he worked for the Post Office in Portland. Eventually, with the F.A.A. he returned to northern Utah in Bountiful. Our family spent a lot of time with Lamar's brother, Hugh Nielson, and family. We camped, travelled and visited together. There was one funny experience where we planned to meet at a certain time at Soda Springs on Mt. St. Helens, a beautiful place to camp. We waited and they waited and finally we all gave up. It seems that there were more than two Soda Springs on the Mountain. I know that my parents had a special connection with them and loved them a lot. I consider Karen to be one of my best friends.
